Install and update issues
Requirements, the drag-to-Applications step, first-open checks, and updates.
Requirements
Notel runs on macOS 15 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs. If your Mac is on an older macOS, the app will not launch.
Installing properly
- Double-click the downloaded
Notel.dmgto open the installer window. - Drag Notel into your Applications folder before launching it. An app sitting in Downloads is easy to clear out by accident, and moving it later can leave an update looking for it where it no longer is.
- Open Notel from Applications, then eject the Notel disk image.
First open
macOS inspects any newly downloaded app the first time you open it, so the first launch can take a moment. If it asks whether you are sure, choose Open. If it refuses outright instead of asking, do not go looking for a way around it; tell us on Discord and we will look at the build you downloaded.
Updates
Notel can check for updates itself, from Notel ▸ Check for Updates… in the menu bar or from Settings → About, which also carries a switch for checking automatically. Installing takes one click and a relaunch. Early builds ship without an update feed; on those the check says so plainly and the automatic switch stays dimmed rather than pretending to work. All updates are free. If an update fails repeatedly: quit Notel, download the latest version from the download page, and drag it into Applications to replace the old copy. Your notes are stored separately and are never touched by reinstalling.
