Activating Notel on your Macs
Entering your code, the three-Mac limit, and moving to a new Mac.
After you buy Notel, your access code appears on the page checkout returns you to. The app calls it a registration code. That page is the only place the code is ever shown and it is not emailed, so save it somewhere you will still have it in a year.
Entering your code
From the lock screen, open the registration form, paste the code into Registration code, and choose Register Notel. Activation needs an internet connection. Your note-taking remains local, though Notel validates the registration with us when it launches.
You can register before the trial ends: choose Help → Register Notel… or Settings → About → Register Notel….
The device limit
One access code activates up to 3 Macs. Each activation is tied to the Mac itself rather than to an account, and the limit is written onto your code at the moment you buy, so a code bought back when the limit was lower keeps that lower number.
Moving to a new Mac
To retire an old Mac, open Settings → About → License… → Unregister This Mac…. Notel deletes the saved code from that Mac and relaunches locked; your notes and settings stay exactly as they were. Then register the new Mac with the same code.
Have the code in front of you first. Unregistering removes that Mac’s Keychain copy, which may be the only copy you still have.
Do it while the old Mac is online. Notel tells our server the seat is free as it unregisters. If the Mac is offline, it still locks locally, but the server may continue counting that seat.
If you sold or wiped the old Mac without unregistering it, that seat stays counted, and there is nothing in the app that can claim it back. Come and tell us on Discord or by email, with your code and roughly when you bought it, and we will get you running again.
“License not valid” at launch?
An ordinary network or server error does not clear a valid registration. The lock screen returns only when the server explicitly rejects it. Re-enter the code in case it was corrected or replaced; if it is still rejected, see Recovering a lost access code or find us on Discord.
