Slash commands and rich objects
Type / inside any note: checklists with progress tracking, embedded notes, tables, code, and more.
Type / at the start of a line, or straight after a space, and a menu of objects appears. Keep typing to filter it (/che finds Checklist), then press Return to insert. The slash menu is the long list. The insert carousel in the note settings panel
is the short one: sixteen buttons over two pages of eight, which you can drag into whatever order suits you.
Notel checklists
/checklist inserts a checklist: tappable items with an Add Item row, indenting, and a per-item reminder if you want one. Typing [] gets you there too, by offering the checklist as a one-row menu you accept with Return.
Items can also track progress. Right-click an item, switch Track Progress on, then pick a Tracking Type from the submenu below it:
- Worked On counts sessions with no finish line: a tally that climbs as you log “worked on 3 times”, with a Mark Complete button for when you are done.
- Goal Count is “4 of 6 times”: set a goal, step toward it, and the item checks itself off when you reach it.
- Percent moves by steps you choose (5, 10, or 20%), with quick jumps to 25 / 50 / 75 / 100%.
Click an item’s chip to log a step, or to open its editor. Whatever it has counted so far stays visible under the item.
Embedding other notes
/note (or typing [[) opens a search of your notes; pick one and a live chip of it lands in the text, showing the target note’s title and font. Click the chip to open that note. Rename the target and the chip updates itself. Embeds can chain: a note can embed a note that embeds another, and when you export a Shareable Note the whole linked set travels together.
Everything else on the slash menu
The content commands cover bullets, numbered lists, tables, text boxes, code blocks with syntax coloring, dividers, expanding footnotes, links, images, video, file chips, plain text objects, paths to folders on your Mac, and Smart Calc templates. Shape commands insert a rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse, triangle, diamond, or emoji. Objects hold their own place on the note while text flows around them; drag an edge to move one or a corner to resize it.
The same menu also carries note and workspace actions: set a Reminder, Record Audio , favorite or lock the note, open Note Info, change its window behavior, stack open notes, file to a folder, collapse or peek the note, open Settings, send to iPhone, or export.
Files and media
You can also drag files straight into a note: PDFs, images, zips, video. Heavy media gets offered a shrink rather than being quietly re-encoded, and anything past the ceiling is turned away. See Attachments, images, and video.
Limits
A single note holds up to 10,000 characters and 10 file, audio, or video attachments. Inline images are managed separately from that attachment count.
