Slash commands and rich objects

Getting started Updated 27 July 2026

Type / at the start of a line, or straight after a space, and a menu of objects appears. Keep typing to filter it (/che finds Checklist), then press Return to insert. The same objects live in the insert carousel of the note settings panel , where you can drag your favorites into the front row.

Notel checklists

/checklist (or typing []) inserts the featured Notel checklist: tappable items with an Add Item row, drag-to-reorder, indenting, and a per-item reminder if you want one.

Items can also track progress. Right-click an item and choose Track Progress, then pick a tracking type:

  • Worked On counts sessions: a ring that fills as you log “worked on 3 times”, with a Mark Complete button for when you are done.
  • Goal Count is “4 of 6 times”: set a goal, step toward it, and the item checks itself off when you reach it.
  • Percent moves by steps you choose (5, 10, or 20%), with quick jumps to 25 / 50 / 75 / 100%.

Click an item’s ring to log progress or open its editor. Partway counts stay visible under the item.

Embedding other notes

/note (or typing [[) opens a search of your notes; pick one and a live chip of it lands in the text, showing the target note’s title and font. Double-click the chip to open that note. Rename the target and the chip updates itself. Embeds can chain: a note can embed a note that embeds another, and when you export a Shareable Note the whole linked set travels together.

Everything else on the slash menu

Bullets and numbered lists, tables with headers, text boxes that stand apart from the body, code blocks with syntax coloring (plus Find in Code… when a note has them), dividers, footnotes that expand on click, links with tidy previews, images, video, shapes, file chips, Record Audio , and Smart Calc templates. Objects sit in the text and move with it; drag one by its edge to reposition it, or grab a corner to resize.

Files and media

You can also drag files straight into a note: PDFs, images, zips, video. Large files are compressed on the way in; see Attachments, images, and video.

Limits

A single note holds up to 10,000 characters and 10 attachments.
