iCloud sync (Coming soon)
Coming soon: how syncing works, what Notel can and cannot see, and turning it off.
Notel can keep your notes in sync across your Macs using iCloud.
Turning it on
Enable sync in Settings (Notel will also offer it once on its own). Syncing uses the Apple Account already signed in on your Mac; there is no Notel account. If the iCloud card is absent, that build of Notel does not include sync.
Before the first sync, Notel saves a local backup of your notes and treats it as a precondition: if that backup cannot be written, sync stops rather than merging anything.
What syncs
Notes and their content, note appearance, folders, attachments, and reminders sync. A focused subset of defaults also syncs, including new-note color, font, size, opacity, dimensions, and whether deleted notes are archived.
Each Mac keeps its workspace state to itself: stacks, note order, window frame, whether a note is open, floating, glued to the desktop, shown on all Spaces, or collapsed, and when you last looked at it. Device and interface preferences such as shortcuts, Fan and Spring behavior, displays, app appearance, and Spotlight indexing also stay local.
What Notel can see
Sync runs through Apple’s iCloud system between your own devices. Notel runs no note servers and cannot read what syncs. Apple’s privacy policy applies to iCloud itself.
Turning it off
Switch sync off in Settings any time. Your notes stay on each Mac exactly as they are; they simply stop updating each other.
If two Macs edit the same note
If both Macs really did edit the same note since they last agreed, Notel keeps both: the other Mac’s version stays as the note, and yours comes back alongside it with (Conflict Copy) added to the title, so you can merge them yourself. If only one Mac actually changed anything, that change simply wins and no copy is made.
Making that copy can fail in a few narrow cases, including a locked note whose key will not re-seal or an attachment that cannot be duplicated. If you are editing the same note heavily on two Macs, it is still tidier to give each Mac its own note and combine them later.
